We have now covered the Pro Shop, the starter's shack, the first tee and the fairway. This pretty much leaves us around and on the greens. Around the green to me means within chipping distance. People in golf carts should always take their putter with them when leaving the cart to make their approach shot as this means they do not have to return to the cart if they land on the green. Whenever any one makes the green he should ask all players if they need the ball marked and proceed to do so if the question is answered in the affirmative. The first player to get to his ball should announce his intention of hitting the ball and proceed to do so. I have seen foursomes measure the distance of the four balls to be chipped to determine who got to play first; can you spell "waste of time"? Whoever is ready next should announce his intention and then hit away.
After you have marked your ball (if applicable) you should move your bag or cart to that area between the green and the next tee box and then return to the putting surface. If you are the first to mark and reposition your bag then you should assume the duty of tending the flag. Once every one is on the green you can pull the flag and prepare for your putt. Putting should follow the "Who is away" rule except when the away person is not ready to putt. If a player has his putt and is ready he should announce his intention and then proceed to putt his ball.
Each player should make a quick "Read" when he marks his ball and go ahead and use that "Read" for his putt as first impressions are usually the most accurate. A player can study a putt to death and find reasons not to follow his first instinct. This usually means a two or three putt green. DO NOT WAIT until it is your turn to putt to finally attempt a "Read"; there is more than enough time while awaiting your turn in the putt rotation to have "read" the green. Once you have started your putting you should continue until you have holed your ball unless you would be standing on someone's line, or if you have left yourself with a tricky putt that needs further study. In that case you should mark your ball and wait for your turn in the new rotation. The next to the last player to putt out should tend the flag and be prepared to put it back in the hole after the last player has putted out. Now you must proceed to the next hole with haste and mark your scores there while waiting for your turn to tee off.
