Ready Golf rule number 2 deals with actions around the tee box. This makes sense because we just left the Pro Shop. Basically this rule says to "listen to the starter for any last minute instructions, perform your warm up routines while waiting for your tee time, decide with the rest of the players what type of game you are playing and the amounts of any betting." You should also use this time to determine Honors off of the first tee: I always use the tee tossed in the air method with the foursome standing at the 4 points of the compass. Whoever the tee points to has first Honors, then the tee is tossed again to determine second Honors, etc.
Honors are an intrinsic part of the game of golf and in Ready Golf there is a little more flexibility. Let's assume you have the Honors and the group ahead of you is in range of your driving ability but you have short hitters among your foursome and they are out of the short hitters range. You should cede your Honors to the short hitters to keep the pace of play brisk. You should also always cede your Honors if for some reason you are not ready (tying your shoes, watering the bushes, hitting on the drink cart girl, etc.).
Everyone should watch every shot and mark the flight of the ball and mark where it is as this will decrease the amount of time spent looking for lost balls. If you have hit a ball out of bounds or into the woods and there is a possibility you may not be able to find the ball, you should hit a "provisional." The "provisional" is the stroke and distance ball you would play based on a lost or out of bounds ball. After everyone has teed off they should go directly to their balls and prepare for their next shot.
If you have hit a ball into the woods, we now encounter Rule 3 of Ready Golf and this rule deals just with lost and out of bounds balls. You should position your bag where the ball entered the hazard and take the club(s) you want as you go looking for your ball. Spend only 4, not 5, minutes looking for your ball. If it is not found and you have not hit a provisional you should take your penalty and drop near where you placed your bag. If you again go out of bounds or into the woods you might consider taking the maximum score allowable for the hole based on your handicap (see rule seven for the handicap system). Never go back to the tee to hit a second shot and after finding your ball in the woods you deal with the ball and do not continue to look for other lost balls. Go To Page: 1 2
