Breed Profiles: Babydoll Southdown

The Olde English Babydoll Southdown Miniature Sheep is a relatively new variety of the southdown breed, and is scattered across America. Despite being an ideal pet sheep, they remain fairly rare.

This miniature sheep is only 19-23" tall. Babydolls usually have off white wool with cinnamon or gray faces and legs. Like most breeds of sheep, some are born solid black. Their flat muzzle and closed face give them the appearance of a silly grin.

Babydolls are a quiet, easily tamed breed. They enjoy interacting with people and learn simple tricks quickly (coming when called, walking on a lead, etc.) Because of their small size, babydolls may have lambing difficulty, although many herds do not.
