Website Reviews, Pt. II

It’s time for more Website Reviews!

These sites aren’t specifically gay-themed, but they do have articles/forums/etc of interest to the GLBT community

ChickClick http://www.clickclick.com

Offers: forums, articles on numerous topics

What I like: they’re not afraid of controversy: articles about abortion, shaving your legs, the presidential election, homosexuality…the works. And members can submit their own articles on any topic.

However: no more website hosting or email, sometimes it’s kinda “girly” (if you’re over 21, you might get bored with this site, especially the forums)

CollegeClub.com http://www.collegeclub.com

Offers: email, chat, website hosting, clubs, articles, etc.

What I like: the email isn’t too shabby, the clubs are interesting (after you get past all the porn) and the forums are always busy

However: How did so many Gen X-ers become so homophobic and racist in this enlightened day and age? All the more reason for you to sign up and give your $.02 about anything—religion, sexual preferences, the topic of the day…

gURL.com http://www.gurl.com

Offers: free website hosting, profiles, chat, etc.

What I like: The cute interactive stuff that is secretly designed to boost a woman’s self esteem, the free webpages, the gURL weekly column/comic strip

However: where are the forums? Every good community needs a message board! I can live without a personal gURL.com chat room, but I need a message board—it’s the best way to meet other gURL.com members!

iVillage.com (http://www.ivillage.com)

Offers: Just about anything a woman could want: email, website hosting, forums, advice, tips and info on everything. I like the section where you can search for and store your favorite recipes.

What I like: the community. The members of iVillage really care about each other. It’s a great community for women.

However: my email hasn’t been working lately, but I’ve been told it will be fixed soon. The webpages are interesting, especially the ready-made formats, but a little complicated. However, if it was too simple, it would probably result in a boring site.

BeliefNet http://www.beliefnet.com

Offers: free email, forums, articles, interviews, information on any religious belief (including agnosticism and atheism), prayer circles and more.

What I like: having a beliefnet.com email address, the intelligent and varied discussions (from Christianity: Challenge and Critique to Homosexuality to Women to Wicca), the interviews with the Dalai Lama

However: This site can be addictive, since it appeals to everyone!

Excite http://www.excite.com , Lycos http://www.lycos.com , Yahoo! http://www.yahoo.com

Offers: I’m lumping all these in together because they’re all similar, although I use yahoo the most. They all offer free email, chat, message boards (Excite got rid of theirs), news, links, search engines…Yahoo and Lycos also have a club feature.
