Days to Celebrate!February and March for Girl Scouts bring lots of days to celebrate. In February we have "Thinking Day," now this may sound a bit strange but it is the birthday's of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell. It is also a day when Girl Scouts all around the world have celebrations honoring other Girl Scouts. My Unit for instance had their Thinking Day and celebrated by choosing scouting countries, learning about them, making costumes and food and then getting together with the other troops and sharing the food and what they had learned. We also learned dances this year for our countries. We learn that not all customs and scout promises are the same for all girls in all countries. It really is interesting. In March on the eleventh, we have Girl Scout Sabbath and then on March 12th we have the birthday of Girl Scouting and what is called Girl Scout Sunday, where the girls wear their uniforms to church and participate in some way in their local faiths whether it is an acoloyte, reading, singing, etc. It is our way of reaffirming our faith in God as expressed in our promise. There are also some troops that will have birthday parties with real cakes. These dates, along with Juliette Low's birthday in October are four of the most important days for all Girl Scouts. Also, we are coming to the end of the Girl Scout year in May and summer vacation will be upon us. But the scouting year starts again in August, so look for local registration places and times in your areas and enroll your daughter for one of the most exciting times in her life.
