SUMMER SCOUTS

For the majority of us the scouting year has come to a close what with Courts' of Honor, Bridging Ceremonies, Courts' of Award, etc. There are a few of us brave hearty souls out there however for whom scouting is a year-round occupation or leisure activity.

So this article is meant as an exchange of ideas:

If you as a Girl or Boy Scout leader continue on during the summer months, what are your primary activities, (camping, working on badges, try-it's, etc.)?

How often do you meet during the summer? Every week, every other week, once a month, etc?

What unique or unusual things have you done during the summer as a troop?

What unique or unusual trips have you taken?

What is the average number of scouts you have that attend these summer activities?

What unusual or unique summer crafts have you done?

This is I hope an interesting exchange of information for those of us who continue on and sometimes come up empty with things to do.

My troop ends the year with a family campout/awards ceremony. In the summertime the troop meets once a month. We have done a variety of things, we have gone swimming and picknicing at the State Park Park, ice skating, the movies, and Disney World. Over the summer I have asked my girls to look through their books and come up with some of the Try-Its they want to work on. I have even assigned Try-Its for the girls to do during the summer so they will start off the year with a brand new Try-It on their vest or sash.

This year my girls are going to bridge to Juniors and I have asked them to check out a copy of the Junior handbook from our local Unit library and just browse through it.

I am looking forward to hearing from all of you who scout during the summer!

Speaking of summer, have a great one, and if you go out in the sun remember to weear your sunscreen!

Happy Summer Scouting!
