University Life

Imagine:

All of your teachers are not misters and mistresses; they are doctors and published intellectuals, epidemiologists and entomologists and other exciting things you’ve only heard about on T.V.

Living among people who are in the primes of their lives. People who are learning only the things that interest them most and people who are paving the way to their lifelong goals and ambitions.

A place where the cliques and the slackers of highschool do not exist- where your world is comprised of bright young minds.

A place where noisy siblings don’t interrupt your studying and a place where you need not encounter the chronically ill or the unhealthy.

A place where borders are erased- a place where the teachers have the accents of all the countries of the world and a place where students represent many countries and races.

A place where you can sit down- anywhere- anytime- and read- without fear of being called a nerd.

A place where you have free access to indoor running tracks, sports equipment, and a swimming pool with a sauna.

A mother who no longer lives with you but who thinks you are going to starve to death and who sends you homemade care packages regularly.

A place with a library 10 stories high.

A place with high-speed Internet access and cable TV.

A place with an exclusive 4 digit telephone number system.

A school so big that it doesn’t have a street address- just an address named after itself.

A school year that is halfway finished at the start of December, that gives a month-long break, and that finishes completely by the middle of April.

A place with more clubs and teams than anyone could ever be a part of.

More freedom than you have ever had and the feeling that you have suddenly become an adult. You are beginning your life on your own in the real world, a rite of passage that every person someday must experience.

A beautified landscape with trees and ponds, and lakes. One that, if it is like mine, is on a huge hill overlooking a city but that is itself still in a wild area with a great hiking trail at its doorstep.

This, and so much more is the very essence of university or college life. It is the most amazing place for you and I, the gifted and talented students of the world. I can honestly tell you that going on to Post Secondary studies was one of the greatest decisions of my life. I am sure you will feel the same way when you begin your own life after high school.
