Where did the Year Go?,Where did the Year Go?

Well, here we are. It is summer holidays once again. For highschool graduates like myself, it is the end of a secure life at home and the beginning of new independence and responsibility. If you are anything like me, you are bewildered as to where the year went. Why, it seems like only yesterday that September started and I began my final year. The year has flown by because I have been so busy. I haven’t watched TV since last August and I have been getting by on far too little sleep. I’ve been worring about my future and I have been making applications for scholarships, universities, and summer jobs on top of all the other things that need doing. I have barely had time to read a novel and enjoy my hobbies like baking. And yet, I wouldn’t trade this year for anything. I have proved to myself that even though I am in OAC, I can still succeed. This was supposed to be the killer year of highschool where my marks would drop dramatically. No such thing happened. Sure, there was more work, but to tell you the truth it wasn’t really much harder than last year.

And now I am leaving home. I am so anxious and worried about leaving my life of 18 years behind. Will my new one be better. . . or worse? I certainly hope that it won’t be the latter of the two. Whoever I ask in their final year seems to feel the same as I do. Almost like we are being robbed of time. My dad says it only gets worse. None of us are 100% ready to leave home. I am sure that in all of our minds there is the tiniest yearning for the good old days when we were little children actually complaining to our parents that we were bored! But that is behind us now, we have only the memories. As I sit here writing I realize that some day I might be the mother and how important it will be to give my own children a wonderful childhood.

As you go off on your own winding path of life stay positive and be willing to work. We all have dreams when we leave home and we need to strive to achieve them. Have faith in yourself, work hard, enjoy life, and make the most of your life right now. Don’t become an old person who regrets wasting the prime years of their life
