Studying at a CastleStudying at a Castle At least five Canadian universities offer the chance to study at a castle. It can be a really wonderful experience if you are the right person. Let us look at the pros and cons of spending a semester at a magical place... Pro- You get to spend a lot of time in a new place and learn first hand. Con- Many of the students that go there are rich and rather snobbish according to a former student there. Pro- You meet people from all over the world. Con- It is expensive so you have to save a lot of money to go. Pro- The place of study is very beautiful and the attractions around it are too. Con- You may not have the chance to see all the places you would like to see. Pro- The class takes many school-related field trips and you have the option of going on other trips as well. Con- You are a long way from home and you can’t see your friends or family for several months. Recently we had a girl who went there last come and speak to our school about the trip. It was rather bad, because she had a lot of complaints with the program. She complained the most about a bad roommate but also about the fact that all the rich kids tended to stay in cliques and that her personality just didn’t fit in with theirs. However, she said that overall it was an amazing experience and that she would not have chosen a different program if she had it to do all over again. However, after hearing about the negative aspects, at least one girl who had planned on going there changed her mind in fear of encountering the same problems. I have also heard others talking about their experiences there and they had great times. I really don’t think that any experience can be without its negative points and if you idealize a program you will be disappointed when you find out that it isn’t perfect. If you are thinking about going abroad to study at a castle or at another interesting place, don’t let fears or gossip talk you out of it. I have let this turn me away from once in a lifetime experiences and I regret it today. Be spontaneous and follow your heart. Depending on who you talk to, you will have different opinions on a topic. You will never really know what its like, though, until you try it for yourself.
