Theft,TheftTheft I have often wondered what is going on in the heads of thieves. I just can’t imagine what makes them steal from other innocent people. Surely many others must have the same concerns and this article is for them. Just yesterday my friend from Aqua Instructors had her bag stolen. She put it down in the parking lot for about 10 seconds while talking to someone, then turned around and it was gone. A church group of Jehovah’s Witnesses had been using the pool right before us, and they were the only ones around. We couldn’t believe it at first, and thought someone was just playing a joke on her. But then, when no one confessed, we realized this was for real. Someone in our little town had stolen. My friend was devastated because her wallet with her license, SIN, and health card had been in the bag. As well, about 300 dollars worth of supplies, like books and clothes had been in it. The very next day her glasses were stolen from the same place. Theft is a horrible crime and whatever motive a person has for taking something from a fellow human being is beyond me. Personally I have had things stolen by my own sister. Nothing big, just lipsmackers and mirrors and clothing, but it was enough to make me get a lock for my door. Generally we think that theft occurs only in the big bad cities- like Toronto and New York. Unfortunately it doesn’t. The days when neighborhoods can be considered safe are gone. No one can go out and leave their homes unlocked any longer. It simply isn’t safe. It is very sad that this is the case, but it is. As gifted and talented teens, we can do something about theft. We can encourage friends who are tempted to steal to forgo their urges. We can try to explain how someone would feel if they found out that their personal items were stolen. We can even call crimestoppers to report crime. This may seem an awful thing to do to a friend, but if we don’t stop them now, they will only be in for more trouble when they are caught for greater crimes in the future. If you have had anything stolen from you, you can understand the pain and frustration of it. You never know when and where you will be a victim of theft, so beware and be careful- the odds are becoming more and more against you.,Theft
