It is called A Tale of Two Cities. This book documents the lives of families whose affairs are woven together in England and France. It speaks of the wretched conditions that lead to Revolution. The Guillotine in all its gory horror is encountered at the end. Charles Dickens is a literary master. He should be read not only for this reason, but in hopes that you can learn from his erudite vocabulary and his grammatical perfection.
For those people interested in science Eleventh Plague is for you. This book speaks of the ten biblical plagues that hit humanity in ancient times. A terrorist recreates them, and adds another. It is interesting to learn about the plagues and how they happen. The author of this book has the last name Marr.
It is often difficult to start a book, especially in the busy twenty-first century. However, force yourself! Don’t give up after the first few pages in boredom. It takes a while for the action to pick up. It also takes awhile to bond to the characters so that you care what happens to them. You may shy away from 1000 page epic novels, but I say: Take a second look. Often these novels will be divided into readable chapters with different generations of the same family in different chapters. You can read one, put the book down for awhile and when you read the next chapter you are not lost.
If you just don’t have time to read novels, then read something else. The daily newspaper is an excellent place to start. Keep yourself up to date on world events. In today’s big city newspapers there is something for everyone. Don’t be put off by a boring front page. Dig into the different sections. Read about plagues in third world countries, strange happenings in your own country, and issues that affect the whole world.
