Gifts for Pet Owners

According to the American Pet Association at http://www.apapets.com/petstats2.htm , There were 136.5 million pet owners in the U.S. in 1999. And according to the following APA statistics on pet owner behavior, the pet owners are crazy about their pets. Twenty-eight million dog owners give their dogs Christmas gifts. And a whopping 13 million celebrate their pet's birthdays in various ways. The APA also goes on to explain that 13 million dog owners consider their dog their best friend.

If you are not a pet lover yourself, you probably know one. Peoples' pets are no less than a part of the family. After having my house invaded by one cat, a dog and a cage full of canaries I am afraid I cannot include myself in the statistics of adoring pet owners. However, for those that are, the genuine love they feel for their pets cannot be dismissed. If you are searching for a meaningful gift for a friend or family and you know they cherish their pet, I have found the following ideas which may be of use to you, ranging from the usual to the unique and bizarre.

A number of on-line stores cater to pet lovers. At The Pet Lover's Gallery, http://www.thegalleries.com/petlover , a gift can be bought from their nicely indexed animal list and their relevant products, accordingly. The usual gifts such as personal T-shirts with the pet's photo, coffee mugs, animal beds and blankets can be found at Cherished Moments, http://www.cherishedmoments.com/pet-love... , which interestingly targets parents of newborn babies and pet owners. I think that shows the U.S. sentiment towards their pets right there! If you are a dog owner, The Pet Set, http://www.petgifts4u.com , can personalize clocks and figurines for 220 different dog breeds. And at http://www.petcessories.com.au , a company out of Australia, you can find fun toys for pets and their owners. Gifts and Magazines at http://www.giftsandmagazines.com has some suggestions for animal lovers, from dogs to dolphins to horses.

Unique ideas include a gift certificate to a local do-it-yourself pet wash, which is the latest in stores that cater to pet owners. The owner can wash his/her pet at the wash and not be bothered with supplies and cleaning up the mess at home. Another new item for pets is gourmet pet food, in which homemade pet treats are baked and delivered straight to their door. If you do not have one in your town or city, consider ordering some from Ruff and Fluff at http://www.ruffandfluff.com , which makes great dog and cat biscuits. If you are really ambitious, Suite101's own Natural Alternatives for Pets has some recipes to follow for pet treats at http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/natu... . Another special gift is a month or year's supply to a pet health club at http://www.pethealthclub.com . They send the owner pet vitamins, treats each month and include health insurance to boot! Another interseting pet gift product turns your pet's photograph into a motion picture. At Make Your Pet A Star http://www.makeyourpetastar.com , for $145 per minute, your pet can become the next Lassie! I cannot resist suggesting the rain coat for ferret owners at http://www.ferretstore.com .
