The yellow buses are out in full force and a new school year is upon us here in Nevada. Now might be a good time to look back in fondness at our recent summer vacation. I've got a dog-eared copy of Dennis William Hauck's The National Directory of Haunted Place. This book goes with my husband and I whenever we travel. As usual it was one of the first things I packed for our recent trip to San Diego. After all, travelers must not forget their essentials.
San Diego is a beautiful city, and like other tourists, we enjoyed many of the city's sights and attractions. We visited many of the museums at Balboa Park, Old Town, with all its haunted buildings, and my animal loving husband's favorite, the Zoo. Ever mindful that this is a city with plenty of haunted places and ghosts, we weren't about to leave without seeing some haunted spots. After all, what ghost investigator worthy of the title will pass up the opportunity to check out a city's ghosts? None that I know. Here's hint for all of you if like browsing bookstores in search of ghost books. We found that the Old Town gift shop next door to the Whaley House offers a vast array of books on hauntings and ghosts. Yes, we spent more time and money there than we had intended. But it was well worth it. Among the ghost books we couldn't live without was a book entitled San Diego Specters by John J. Lamb. If you're a ghost enthusiast headed to San Diego you really ought to read this book. Armed with San Diego Specters and The National Directory of Haunted Places we were really ready to explore the city. We visited the Hotel Del Coronado, that we discovered isn't really in San Diego at all. Then it was off to the Star of India, which is part of San Diego's Maritime Museum. A fellow tourist told us that she had seen two ghostly young men below deck. Naturally we took several photos in that area. Later we were disappointed when to discover that these photos came up without an orb or an anomaly. That evening we decided to really jump into tourist mode and take the Ghosts and Gravestones Trolley Tour. For 28 bucks each we were taken on a nighttime tour of such places as Whaley House, El Campo Santo Cemetery and Villa Montezuma. Go To Page: 1 2
