Red Wine for the SpecterInsisting that ghosts need fortification, Mrs.Manero always placed a full glass of red wine at a certain table for the enjoyment of each of her ghostly friends. Sometimes there would be as many as ten glasses of wine at that corner table. No matter how busy the café was, no one dared to ask for the corner table. Our food arrived and we dug in hungrily. The meal was over, we were cracking open our fortune cookies, and the ghost still had not touched his wine. When I commented on this, my daughter in law smiled, "It's the thought that counts." And so it is. Here's to you, Mrs. Manero.
