When one of the producers at Fox' Scariest Places on Earth asked me to participate in an investigation of the old Goldfield Hotel in Goldfield Nevada, I was thrilled. As a writer and a ghost hunter, getting into the hotel is something I've always wanted to do.
But up till then didn't think I had a chance. After all, the hotel has been closed for nearly 50 years and getting inside is all but impossible. So I agreed. And on the scheduled day of taping off to Goldfield my husband and I went. As the crew sat up their equipment we met with friends and other ghost investigators and tried to get into the building for a little peek. Nothing doing! We were told by the director that we would all have to wait till dark. Finally with the desert wind kicking up and the sun slipping down, it was dark enough for taping. We grabbed our cameras, digital and 35MM, flashlights, meters, and notebooks and entered the hotel. Along for the investigation was a couple and their dog, and a psychic. They went one way and we went the other. As expected, the place was dusty, dirty and in need of serious repairs. Still we bravely forged on. We got a few decent orb photos and their were some strange instances; like cameras not working, flashlights dimming intermittently, and the barometric meter on my husband's watch malfunctioning. We came away convinced the building is indeed haunted. All in all it was a thrill beyond compare to finally visit the Goldfield Hotel. Now when is check-out time?
