Ghostly Stars

Stars always seem to be larger than life. This could be the reason so many of them continue to stay in our world long after death has claimed them.

On a cold December morning in 1935 the body of beautiful blonde Thelma Todd was found slumped over the steering wheel of her car in her garage. The cause of death remains a mystery. It may have been murder, suicide, or a terrible accident. Regardless, the ghost of Miss Todd has been seen in and around the building on Pacific Coast Highway where she resided.

Jean Harlow was beautiful blonde actress who had star quality and promise. Unfortunately, she died long before her time. Harlow's husband, Paul Bern was abusive to her and some say her death at age 27 was a result of injuries he had inflicted upon her. The actress has decided to stay put. She's still there in Beverly Hills haunting the bedroom she occupied in life.

Bela Lugosi was Dracula. In make-up and on screen, he sent fear coursing through the hearts of moviegoers, young and old. But with the 1950's came science fiction and a new type of horror film and sadly he was all but forgotten when death claimed him in 1956. It would seem that Mr. Lugosi hasn't gone very far. He's been seen, cape and all, numerous times over the years walking along some of the same Hollywood streets that he did in life.

Thinking of capes, we certainly can't forget television's original Superman, George Reeves. Reeves death, like so those of so many other stars, is shrouded in mystery. The general consensus is that he killed himself because he felt trapped in the role of the man of steel. But his mother and his friends believed he was murdered. Even though his ghost, in full Superman regalia, is known to appear in the home of his death, the truth will likely forever elude us.

Mary Pickford was America's sweetheart. Some say that the ghost of the silent screen star with the youthful looks and golden ringlets, resides in the Beverly Hills mansion she called home for over 60 years. The apparition smiles coyly whenever she is spotted then slowly dissolves.

Women swooned whenever silent screen star Rudolph Valentino appeared on screen. He was the Sheik and the idol of just about every woman in the country. Tragically, the handsome actor died before he could reach his full potential as an actor. His death shocked fans, leaving them broken-hearted and confused. But they needn't have worried. Valentino's ghost is still being seen in and around Hollywood. How's that for staying power?
