Ghost Tours

It's almost time to start thinking about vacation. And even with the high cost of gasoline, travel plans need to be made. The open road, different locales, and plenty of ghosts await you.

If you visit, or live, in an area that offers a ghost tour you're missing out on a lot of fun if you don't take it. There's no better way for a tourist to learn of a city's local ghostly legends and history, since most tours not only offer information on the ghostly encounters, but some historical information on the haunted place as well.

Does Salem have a history or what? Being the city of the infamous witch trials and subsequent burnings at the stake, Salem surely has its fair share of spirits. Just to prove the point, every October Derby Square Tours presents Terror Trail a candlelight walk and talk of Salem's ghostly past and haunts.

The eerie Winchester Mystery House in San Jose California offers a Friday the 13th and Halloween Night flashlight tour of the mansion Sarah built. These tours are always very popular. Even if you don't encounter a spirit along the way, the souvenir flashlight is yours to keep.

A few weeks before Halloween Nevada's Capital City, Carson City, puts on its annual Ghost Walk. This Saturday morning event always has them standing in line to get a glimpse of where a particular haunting occurred. Actors and actresses portray long dead historical personages of the city and tell of eerie happenings. There is no rush here. Each participant is given a map of the places and is left to walk or drive to the spots at leisure. But don't dawdle. The walk concludes in late afternoon.

While Halloween is generally the time of year when all things ghostly become popular, thankfully many ghost tours are now offered year round, with Halloween being particularly busy.
