Point Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove was built in 1855 and is the oldest continuously operated lighthouse on the West Coast. On foggy nights its automated signal goes into action, helping to guide ships from the rocky shoreline to the safety of Monterey Bay. Like most lighthouses, Point Pinos is haunted. Mrs. Emily Fish, a former lighthouse keeper is the spirit in residence. Over the years many strange occurrences have been reported. Most often things are moved from one place to another. It seems that Mrs. Fish is a very helpful spirit who doesn't like clutter, so she tidies up anything she considers to be out of place.

The United States Naval Postgraduate School is located on the grounds of the old Del Monte Hotel in Monterey. The Del Monte Hotel was once a luxurious stopping off point where celebrities of the day hobnobbed with royalty. Apparently some of them enjoyed their stay so much; they don't want to leave. In Herrmann Hall, which was the main building of the Del Monte Hotel, the sounds of gaiety and laughter can be heard even when the building is empty and unseen hands sometimes move the furniture around. A mysterious man in gray has been seen many times over the years. He is impeccably dressed in a style of long ago, and there is much debate and speculation as to his identity. All agree that he is a gentleman, whoever he was.

The Casa Bodega Liquor Store and Deli on Del Monte in Monterey makes a tasty sandwich. What else would you expect from a haunted liquor store and deli? But who is the ghost? One story tells of a young clerk who was killed in a hold-up and returns to the store from time to time. Another tells of a scientist who once lived and worked in the building. It seems that one rainy night an experiment he was working on went haywire, and he ended up electrocuting himself. Now his ghost makes regular appearances in the store as a flashing bright light. Perhaps both spirits call the Casa Bodega home.

Carmel was an artists' colony. Today it's a picturesque town with lots of art galleries, quaint shops and cozy restaurants. But there is a lonely spot in the city where the ghostly sounds of invisible hoof beats can be heard occasionally. It seems that this place was once very dangerous terrain and many horses lost their lives there on dark foggy nights.
