Horses from LiteratureOnce again, I have writer's block. No clue what to write. But... in trying to kick the block, I've been reading like heck. Not horse books, but it did bring to mind this month's topic. (I should get out to ride my horse sometime next month, so a normal article is on the way.) Black Beauty is one of the best known and most loved horse stories, and with good reason. I got completely addicted to this book. It properly portrays a horse's life, but from the horse's perspective. Black Beauty is a well behaved, positively beautiful, gentle horse. So he's a dream horse (my dream horse, at least - minus the burning barn and faithless caretakers). The book is well written, and puts a vivid picture into the mind of the reader. My Friend Flicka is a good book by Mary O'hara. I found the ending very wishy washy indeed, but aside from that... I can't give the book justice in such a small space, so you'll just have to read it. Wyoming Summer is a great book, too, written by Mary O'Hara. It describes a year on her ranch, and says a little about the writing of My Friend Flicka.
