All the Poor HorsesYeah yeah yeah... I know no one wants to read about this. But it is what's cropped up recently in my horse adventures. I went on a trip to Mexico a short time ago. I saw many interesting, beautiful, and revolting things there. Cows loose on a roadside, herds of sheep crossing a road, horses standing tacked up for days on end... Yes, a horse tied to a tree and forgotten for almost a week. When driving to Pyramide de Sol, we passed a poor appy who had been tacked up, ready to ride, tied to a tree right next to the road (a highway in fact). The poor thing looked as though it hadn't been properly fed for quite some time and as though it wasn't exactly looking forward to riding. We passed several horses that were being ridden, and the Appy was driven from my mind. On the way to Mexico city on Wednesday, we passed the Appy again. Still tied up, not a single thing changed. After arriving in Mexico City, and seeing the mounted police on their lovely sorrel hot-bloods, the appy was once again forgotten. On Saturday on the way to the airport, I saw the Appy again, nothing changed. Aren't you glad to live in a country where horses still command SOME respect?
