Synthetic vs. Natural VitaminsScientists today know that natural vitamins contain something, which no synthetic can duplicate. The very word holds the secret in its root-vita, of life. It is this potent quality that is missing in chemical combinations and synthetic vitamins. No matter how identical the basic compounds, man-made substances cannot duplicate the God-created qualitative that exists in a living source. Example? An apple seed might be chemically copied, but it would never produce an apple. If you planted it, it could not grow. We are often told, "A vitamin is a vitamin, and the body doesn't know the difference." But any living body, human or animal, does know the difference between a dead inorganic substance and one in which the life force stirs. Hundreds of experiments have proved this. Weight gains, vigor, survival rates were markedly different. Synthetic vitamins were better than none, but the natural were more effective and less toxic. This is mainly because nature always gives us her vitamins in groups. If one is extracted it is bound to incorporate fragments of others, which both enhance it yet dilute it and give it balance. Many people are allergic to the chemicals used as a base for synthetic vitamins. Some are toxic, including nicotine, coal tars and alloxaI. If the product is properly prepared, much of the toxins will be refined out. However, no poisonous substance is used in preparing natural vitamins. The best source of any vitamin is, of course, the foods in, which they are in. Milk, eggs, butter and meats of every kind, but especially the organ meats such as liver are high in natural vitamins. Good too are, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds and unprocessed, grains. Since so few of us can get our foods genuinely fresh and unadulterated, practically all of us need the boost of supplements. What do vitamins do for us? They give us energy, and give life more zest and vitality. Vitamins help us to resist disease. They protect us from the poisons in our air, water and food. You can control your body, calm your nerves, and they can even make your body rest, and you can sleep better. Vitamins will make you look better (skin, hair and nails); for those who take vitamins regularly, they simply don't age as fast as the calendar claims. Why do I take vitamins and minerals? I am a healthy person. However, I do not believe in the governments claims that if we eat a “balanced diet” that we will maintain good health. There are just too many factors to add in and many are depleting the vitamins and minerals, before they ever get to your table.
