GENERAL MILITARY CATEGORY COMES ON LINE

General military is a subject that should be broad enough to satisfy just about anyone who suffers from an overly widened expanse of interests. My intention is to be able to write about any military subject that grabs my interest; except for those that are already being covered by an editor writing in a more focused area. As more editors come on line and choose their subjects; I will cease any treatment of those subjects that someone has chosen as his specialty. As an example, there is already an editor writing on the Civil War. I won't write on topics that are specific to the Civil War; such as the use of the Gatling gun during the war. I would consider an article on the Gatling gun to be valid territory overall; because it spans more time in service; and because of its place at the forefront of American 'machine' guns. Welcome to the General Military section of Suite 101!

Http://naval-technology.com is the address for "Naval Technology; the website for Defense Industries - Navy". The major sections of this site are: Current Projects and Developments; Equipment, Products and services; A-Z Company index; Exhibitions and Conferences; and Associations, Institutes, Societies, and Government Departments. The companies and products covered span the world rather than being limited to the U.S. The end of the Cold War; while it hasn't removed barriers completely; has had the effect of opening channels more than most people would have believed only ten years ago. The Union of Federated States; what us dinosaurs still tend to think of as the 'Soviet Union'; is well represented here as individual states. This web site is a treasure for those who are interested in military ships and aircraft that are currently being developed; and in much of the support equipment that is required for these platforms. Listings are broken down by (major) type of equipment and by individual company. Other listings include appropriate points of contact in each country for naval issues. These points of contact include government agencies, research institutes, industry groups, professional associations and societies and not for profit educational groups. Organizations in one hundred and thirty-nine countries are listed. Apparently the only ones not on the list are those that have no coast lines and therefore no naval presence. Ideally, weapons are designed to complement the user's philosophy of waging war. If modern weapons' actual capabilities depart from their planned capabilities in a significant way; they may end up driving the war fighting philosophy instead of supporting it. In either case; study of an adversary's weapons can give important insights into what he believes to be important and how he expects to conduct his operations. This site gives access to begin investigation of a large number of projects from around the world. A sister site; http://army-technology.com , provides the same type of information for ground forces.
