Army aviation provides the wings and rotors for units that provide supplies by tactical airlift. Rail companies are able to provide the organization to operate train service in foreign countries, using the infrastructure that is currently in place or by coordinating the construction of such an infrastructure with the Corps of Engineers. And, of course, there are the truck companies, operating everything from 2 ½ tons on up, who provide the bulk of the tactical resupply for the grunts in the field.

Supply and transportation types are often looked down on by the combat arms folks because of the perception that they don't get shot at. This perception is false. Although the vast majority may never be under fire; those that are have a poor chance for survival, because their contact is usually the result of an ambush. Whether on land or sea, or in the air; supply assets are always an attractive target because of their relative inability to fight back or run away.

Without supply, and the transportation to get it to the fighting front; no force can remain in the field for long.
