Well, I must admit that my enthusiasm for the Fall season runs high this year, as we are spending some time in my old stomping grounds in Northeastern United States right now. The smell of the crisp air, the breathtaking sights of the trees all adorned in their fabulous red, orange and yellow hues...these are just a couple of the things that excite me about Autumn. It is by far my favorite season of the year, and I find it very inspiring.
Think about the decorating possibilities...the mini gourds, the pumpkins, corn husks and stalks, and so on and so on. We are less than one week off from the official start of Fall, and now is a good time to start decorating for the season. In this article, I've included ideas for both grown-ups and children. Spend some time with the kids and let them help you decorate. They're only young once!!! I like using grapevine wreaths as a nice welcome on my front door. Add some silk or dried sunflowers to it, some raffia, corn husks, berries, pinecones, mini gourds, dried Japanese lanterns, and/or any other seasonal items you can rummage up. Add a colorful bow with some wired ribbon or even make a more rustic bow with raffia, and Voila! A wonderful homey touch to your front door. Also consider decorating a raffia braid or a grapevine arch in the same manner you would a wreath. All are lovely and welcoming. This will be a nice way to spend time with the little ones, and they will get a big kick out of taking part in decorating. Here are some wonderful ways to get the kids involved in Fall decorating: http://www.skl.com/~guidezon/kdcornma.htm , and http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/7997/... . Don't forget about the old standby of making placemats with colorful leaves and waxed paper...go for a walk on a crisp Fall day with the kids and have them collect colorful fallen leaves along the way. Put them between two sheets of waxed paper and iron the waxed paper shut. This makes a cute placemat, which the child will be proud to display. Smaller versions can also be hung in the window for a type of suncatcher. For other wonderful Fall project ideas for you and your children, check out: http://www.homeschoolzone.com/pp/fall.htm .
