Well, it's almost here. Hard to believe summer is upon us already, and there are only a few weeks til the big celebration! For a wonderful site about the history of our country and to find out what all the hoopla is all about, check this out: http://www.dzn.com/~lhindi/Declaration-o... Many of you will be planning or participating in celebrations for this glorious day, so I've tried to provide you with plenty of ideas for crafts and decorations.
Painted faces and homemade Statue of Liberty crowns spread the excitement for the kids! Here is a fun idea for the kids: http://www.michaels.com/kids/projects/kp... Use those metallic star stickers to decorate costumes or anything to make it festive. Need something a bit bigger in the way of stars? Here is a clever way to cut a five-pointed star in one snip: http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagstar.... Make any size you want! Create a "Parade Stick" using a dowel and some of those icicles you put on your Christmas tree. Paint the stick red and white, like a candy cane, then use some electrical tape (or something comparable) to attach the icicles to the end of the stick. Fun for kids and adults to wave at a parade! Make plant sticks using the wired star garland. Twist the ends of the garland around a pencil to make them curly. Take a brandy snifter, fill it one-third full with some red, white and blue flattened marbles, then sprinkle some festive confetti amongst the marbles. Then add a red votive. Cute centerpiece, but most likely for decoration only. Just be careful what you add as far as decorations...many craft items tend to be quite flammable. Make a centerpiece simply by filling a clay pot (which could be decorated, to boot!) full of marbles or soil. Insert a few little US flags, along with some of the wired star garland that has been wrapped around a pencil to make it curl. You could also mount some party noisemakers on dowels and insert them into the pot. Anything goes! Instead of place cards, why don't you try dynamite!!! Well, a look-alike, anyway! Take a look: http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/firecrac... Decorate the kids' bikes for a parade! Weave colorful crepe paper through the spokes of their bicycle wheels. Attach ribbon to the handlebars and string the ends with beads or little jinglebells (You can find them in various colors at craft stores!). Make windsocks, simply using the top portion of a 2-liter soda bottle which has been cut off the bottle. Staple some crepe paper, etc to it and hang it by using some twine. The top plastic portion could be painted as you desire to make it even more festive. Go To Page: 1 2
