Recycle Crafts and Tips Part II

If you're anything like me, you give just about everything a second look before you throw it away these days! Lots of items made of cardboard and plastic can be re-used, but don't limit recycle crafts to just those items. Train yourself to look at everything with a fresh eye. I've compiled lots of recycle craft ideas and tips in this week's article, so please take a few minutes to read through! I've done my best to sort through the ideas and combine appropriately (i.e., all baby food jar ideas in one group, coat hanger ideas in another, etc.), but sometimes it was better to sort a bit differently than that. I hope you find some good ideas here, and I hope you will become inspired to come up with more of your own!

Fill a baby food jar 2/3 full with light corn syrup. Conservatively add glitter, sequins, etc. Fill up the jar with cold water. Cap very tightly, and shake it like crazy!!! Another similar idea is to fill a 1 liter soda bottle 2/3 with vegetable oil, then fill 2 inches or so from the top with water deeply colored with blue food coloring. Add glitter, if desired. Cap very tightly. This will create a wave when tipped on its side and swayed gently. I don't know if this is a "craft," but it could be rigged up to work for crafting...to store sorted buttons or sequins, beads, etc. My father always used lots of baby food jars, nailed the lids to a big piece of plywood over his head in his workshop and filled the jars with nails, screws, etc. Kept his counter cleaned off (well...most of the time!).

Use an old scrap block of wood (comfortable size to fit in your hand) and the old scraps of crafting foam that you always hesitate to throw away to make a rubber stamp! Simply cut the foam shapes into the desired shapes and hot glue them to the bottom of the wooden block.

Straighten out a coat hanger and use as a wreath form. Shape it into a circle or other desired shape, wire on greenery. Decorate as desired and enjoy! I also found a neat project on the web which uses coat hangers as part of a frame for a papier mache dinosaur! Check this out: http://users.hsonline.net/kidatart/htdoc...

Mix old , softened slivers of soap with cornmeal and/or oatmeal and form into a brick or a ball, etc. It's a great pumice-type soap, and you don't waste all those little bits of soap! You can also use one of those little onion bags to collect those slivers of soap until you save up enough.
