Easter Crafts

A sure sign that Spring is here...EASTER! The blooming of daffodils, crocuses, warmer temperatures, and Easter...the sign of warmer temperatures and longer, sunnier days. Soon the Peter Cottontail will be hopping down that bunny trail, so here are some crafts to make that special day even more special. For a little bit on the background of Easter (and a cake idea!), check out this site: http://www.geocities.com/sparkle807/east...

Of course, I can not write about Easter crafts without mentioning the coloring of eggs! Perhaps the easiest (and cheapest) is to use natural ingredients that you already have on-hand, such as onion skins for yellow, cabbage for blue-violet, and so on. It is also relatively cheap to use plain old food coloring and a splash of vinegar to set the color. Go to http://craftcentralstation.com/easter/eg... for more ideas. Also, I suggest visiting this site for more options using natural ingredients for coloring eggs: http://click.go2net.com/click?area=resul... (Or go to Holidaychannel.com, and click on Activities and Fun, then Easter Baskets.)

Looking back, I think one of the prettiest Easter crafts I ever made was an Easter egg wreath. I used a natural colored willow wreath and some colorful Easter ribbon. I also used some Easter eggs that I had blown out and washed, then dyed. I added the ribbon and the eggs to the willow wreath and voila! I had a beautiful, though delicate, Easter wreath that was so inviting on my door! Don't forget about Easter egg trees, which can be created by stringing eggs on pretty ribbon and hanging the eggs on a few branches that you have sunk into a pot of soil. Makes an interesting conversation piece for your porch or entryway.

Though many people love to use baskets to give candy and such, I like to branch out and go for more unexpected containers. One nice "container" can be created by simply using a couple of the largest paper doilies you can find, twist them into a conical shape, then attaching a beautiful Spring or Easter ribbon to it as a handle. This can be filled with Spring flowers or candies and hung on a door knob. It's a beautiful touch, and can actually be used for any occasion, simply by altering your choice of materials. And of course, many people love to spend time with their children during Easter break making crafts and sharing special moments. These sites should be helpful in giving you ideas: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres... and http://ntl.sympatico.ca/~whogan/ecraft.h...
