KEEPING UP WITH INTERNET GENEALOGY: MISC. SITES

© Christine Sievers

Here is my final list of sites to check for new listings. It includes a number of different types of records that are being transcribed onto websites.

First, let's look into immigration records:

1. Immigrant Ships Tranccribers Guild: This is another transcription project done by those great volunteers at RootsWeb. You can search the ships' passenger lists a number of ways, including surname. Again, new records are constantly being added. If you are new to looking for your ancestors immigration records, check out the link to the "Compass" which provides many resources.

2. Distant Cousin's Genealogy Index - List of Ships Passengers: This site has been working to get these online for you, the list has become extensive and includes a surname search of ships.

Cemetery transcriptions:

3. The USGenWeb Tombstone Transcription Project: follow the link "View The Registry" for state links, or "Foreign Cemeteries" (just a few so far) or "Military Cemeteries"

Next, take a sweep through the state and local resources you are researching to see if anything new has been added.

US Sites

4. USGenWeb Project State Listlinks: follow the links to your area of research, there is always something new being added

5. DistantCousin.com - State and Local Genealogy Resources: provides more state links

Canadian Sites:

6. Canada GenWeb Project

Then, if you are doing research in a world wide site:

7. The WorldGenWeb Project

Wordwide sites:

8. Distant Cousins - Ethnic Genealogy Resouces

Finally,

I do a quick look into Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet to find new sites of personal interest.

This is the last of my regular checklist. Keeping up with these major sites can help me find major new data that is being added to the genealogical Internet community.
