There have been many changes in the Internet genealogical community since I started my Suite 101 articles more than a year ago. There are many, many great sites. I tried to bring what I have felt would be the most useful to everyone.
They are rated either 5 stars or 4; the only criteria being whether all their data was available to everyone at their site. I'm sure I missed some great 5 star sites, but hopefully the link list category will lead you to them.
Following are my new categories, with an explanation:
MULTI-PURPOSE SITES
There are some sites that provide a number of different services- databases, articles, searches, queries, lists, etc. If they provided at least 3, I put them in this category.
LINK LIST
Different sites have different ways of categorizing their lists. Genealogy is a creative endeavor, so looking at different perspectives can help our discoveries. Try some of the different list sites to get your juices flowing and help you surf more productively.
BEGINNER HELP
If you are new to genealogy, or to Internet genealogy it can be a bit overwhelming. These sites help you get started. But, they are not for beginners only. I find them helpful when I need to get back on track or to look for something I am missing in my research.
DATABASE SEARCH ENGINES
Search engines are a great time saver when we log into the genealogical community. These provide different ways to search for the information we need or to find lost cousins.
GEOGRAPHIC LISTS
When we need to target our research to a specific location, or even find that location, these will get you headed in the right direction.
ON-LINE ARTICLES AND NEWSLETTER
These are some of my favorite places to read the latest, or get new ideas. A must if you want to keep up with the genealogical world.
