EXPLORING KINDRED KONNECTIONS

The Internet has brought to genealogists the ability to link to others who are doing research on related families. So, I am always searching for sites that have large databases of gedcoms. (if you are not familiar with gedcoms, look at my article Gedcoms)

This week I will introduce a site that boasts of an archive of over 100 million names, Genealogy and Family History at Kindred Konnections.

I work on a very limited budget, so I need resources that I can afford. Kindred Konnections is in my range of affordability. First, I can check for free the Ancestral Archive Index Search. That way, I know if they have on file the names I am researching.

If I find that they might have what I need, I can access the pedigrees inexpensively in three ways. First, I can get a free hour by helping them to extract names from a record image. Or, I can get a free month by sending them my gedcom. (If you don't have a genealogy program that generates gedcoms, they provide what you need on their site.) Finally, for $5 I can get ten days to peruse the site. Ten days should be enough time to judge how much it is worth investing in this site.

For more information on their site visit their Demo Room.

HOT TIP OF THE WEEK: RootsWeb now has a U.S State Resource page that is a great help in finding any information you need for researching in a particular state. You will find it at http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/XX/. (Replace the XX for the two letter state postal code. i.e. Ohio=OH)
