CHILDREN AND GENEALOGYWith summer here, it is a good time to involve your children in your passion - genealogy. Today's kids are familiar with the computer and the Internet. We aften worry about the sites they may be going into, and/or the amount of time they spend on computer. Genealogy is the perfect way to get them busy doing something on the Internet that will actually teach them something and give skills that will help in school. Cyndi's List has added a new section Kids & Teens. I have taken a look at what she has found and here are a few suggestions. The Information for Adults page of the Genealogy for Children site is a good place to start. It will give you some basic ideas. They have a number of activities that may interest you and your children. BREA'S Genealogy for Kids - Welcome is another starting place. It is easy to navigate and contains an incredible amount of kid friendly sites. Take a little while to explore it, then give your kids a go at it. This was set up by librarian, Barbara Henry, who has done a wonderful job. Once your children are off on their own in genealogyUSGenWeb Kidz Site is a great kid friendly site for your child to explore on their own. It even includes a query board just for kids. You might try the Mom's_N_Me mailing list to get more ideas, and communicate with other genealogist mothers. Have a great summer.
