In order to do this, you need to create a time and space for yourself where you can experience, explore and examine your feelings. You don’t have to rip off your mask and expose your naked self to the world; you can still wear your mask when you need it. The difference is that once you have gotten comfortable being with your emotions, you can actually notice when you are wearing the mask and what it feels like. The great thing is that you can challenge the system ruled by male dominance and violence just by “being.” If you need some help getting started with this process, check out: “Revolution From Within” by Gloria Steinem, “The Miracle of Mindfulness” by Thich Nhat Hanh, and “Action Theater : The Improvisation of Presence” by Ruth Zaporah. Classes such as yoga, art, acting, music, or authentic movement can also be helpful. And of course if you’re brave enough to face your feelings, you can try therapy.
