Soon after the divorce a friend told Cindy she thought Cindy was gay. Lights went off in Cindy’s head as she realized the friend was right. There was no trauma to the realization, just profound relief at finally finding herself.
Cindy has no regrets except that she didn’t meet her present lover years before she did. She and her partner have been together for almost 10 years and are committed to a lifetime of togetherness. Her ex-husband has remarried and seems to be happy. Her sons are all grown and she does have a close relationship with one of them. Another son and she are slowly coming to terms with the past and rebuilding their relationship and the third son will no doubt come around, as he gets older. Cindy now sees that she had actually fallen in love with one of the nuns while in the convent. She was just so innocent that she never knew what those feelings were at the time. After realizing her sexuality she continued visiting that nun who had become a close family friend. It was very enlightening. At the convent she saw how close the sisters were and how they treated one another. She realized that she would have had a very difficult time had she stayed in the convent.
