MARRYING THE OPPOSITE SEX. PART 1

© Claudia McCreary

Many gays and lesbians often find themselves married to the opposite sex. There are many reasons why gay people marry the opposite sex. While there are many reasons for this, the three most common are: Some do so hoping to cure their attraction to their own sex, some don’t realize until later in life they are gay and some just don’t act on their feelings. Marriage to the opposite sex can start happily, but they often end up quite the opposite and in divorce court.

Sometimes the unwanted spouses can’t deal with the reality of loosing their husbands to another man. It must be heart wrenching to suddenly wake up and see that your husband rejects you to be with someone else. It must be double whammy when that someone else is another man, especially if you ignored or never realized your spouse was actually gay.

Carl got married a year out of high school. It wasn’t so much that he was in love the woman and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, but rather that they wanted to live together and it was the easiest way to get Carl’s Uncle to rent them the apartment above his store. Carl had always been attracted to men and fascinated by the male form. However, he really didn’t think he was gay. He and his wife Janice had a baby girl. She was the light of his life. But the marriage had cracks even before this happened.

He wasn’t very interested in his wife sexually. Something she often complained about to friends. There also was a situation that occurred between him and another male friend. Kerry was a beautiful man who was a year younger than Carl. He came from a dysfunctional family and would often stay with Carl and his wife when things were bad at home. Carl did not take advantage of him; it was actually Kerry who initiated the short-lived affair. But Carl’s wife found out about it and Kerry was no longer welcome in the house. The incident got swept under the carpet as so many marriage-busting things do because neither wanted to deal with it.

Carl realized that the marriage had irreversible problems but he decided to just wait and see, not wanting to end it. His wife never dealt with what she secretly was denying. Her husband preferred men to her. She felt the marriage was strong and what had happened was a one-time thing.

Thanks for sharing this story, Claudia. It seems human nature to be vindictive when things go awry, which is too bad. This was the case when my marriage ended, too. I've seen some divorces happen much ...
