4. Turn your tree into a bird feeder by stringing dried fruit, suet, and bread from the branches. The food attracts the birds to the tree while the branches protect them while they feed.

5. If you're lucky enough to own a chipper, come spring, chop up the skeleton of the tree, and use the wood chips to line a woodland pathway or as a mulch around shrubs and trees.
