Fabulous Shrubs for the Rockies

This spring look for these five fabulous shrubs to grow in your Rockies garden. Beauty, hardiness and low maintenance come together in these shrubs to provide years of gardening pleasure. These flourish in the Rocky Mountain regions, zones 2 - 4. They will create breath-taking vistas with their glorious blooms, especially when back-dropped by evergreens and rugged peaks. Savor their fragrance. Appreciate their lush and attractive foliage throughout the summer and then enjoy the showy display as fall turns the leaves vibrant colours. Watch the birds flock to feast on their berries as the snow blankets the woody branches, giving form to a winter landscape. Therese Bugnet - This delightfully old fashioned mauve-pink rugosa rose doesn't sacrifice beauty for hardiness. In spring, soft green leaves provide a perfect background showing off tightly formed dark pink buds. The double old fashioned blooms emit a light lemon fragrance and are abundant from late spring until frost. In autumn, the leaves turn several shades, from yellow to red and are sprinkled with shiny, orange rose hips. The scarlet canes are stunning in winter. A good hedging or back of the border plant. Very light pruning required. Full sun, steer manure or compost top-dressing in the spring, water during dry spells.
