Not Landscaping The GardenHave you ever wondered why people who build new houses never take into consideration the makeup of the garden during construction? Indeed they sometimes do not take the garden into the scheme of things at all. The garden is last on the list when all the available cash has already been squandered on the building and furnishings. Often the garden is forgotten about, sometimes for years, while the inside of the house is adorned with the most expensive of items in an endless rush to keep up with the Joneses. If, as in a minority of cases, there is some money left for the garden, it always falls short of the required amount to do justice to the area allocated for the garden, and certainly not the 15% of the total building cost that is usually recommended. Now I am not against people building a house and furnishing it in a comfortable manner, but most people only see the outside of the house and will never see what is inside, except for a small circle of friends. How often have you seen a new house with a brand new Mercedes outside the door and weeds and builders' rubble all over where the garden should be? Surely this is not a case of cash running out If you apply the same criteria to the people themselves, when going out to socialize they have a nice flashy car, dress up in the most modern style of clothes and like to sport expensive jewelry. It would seem to be the outward appearance that counts. The moral and spiritual values of the inner self do not come into the equation. Why then does this outward appearance value not apply to the garden? What a nice place the country would if there was some law to force people building new houses to take care of the garden, as part of the planning regulations. After all, they can specify what kind of roof you put on and what colour it has to be. Why then could they not demand a plan for the garden with the plans for the house? It would sure cut out a lot of the problems with Leylandii and Poplars planted in wrong place. Those of the above mentioned fall into two categories, the one that attempts to do the garden themselves and those who expect a landscape firm to do it for half of nothing.
