The Dionysias are in full bloom now after making various attempts over the autumn and winter, at least now all the flower buds are opened at once. When inspection the flowers I suddenly remembered that I had sowed some seed last autumn and left it outside.
A thorough search of the of the seed frame recovered the pot complete with a nice batch of fresh seedlings.
Most people are surprised when I tell them to put their Dionysia seed pots out in the weather, but it works a treat. They need lots of water to germinate and when they are at the seedling stage. It is only when they grow into little buns that you have to watch the watering.
The bulb frame is also very colourful now with the entire dwarf Narcissus collection in full bloom. My favourite in this is one called Narcissus cyclamineus closely followed by Narcissus cantabricus sub sp. cantabricus. The snowdrops (Galanthus) are also in bloom including Sophie north, definitely the best variety of all the snowdrops I have ever seen. The seed in the zip bags is germinating thick and fast so I had better go and mix some more compost. Good gardening until next time. MICHAEL J CAMPBELL Go To Page: 1 2
