IS T.V Gardening Unrealistic?

<

T.V, gardening shows are destroying the basic principals of good gardening. Unrealistic makeovers that obviously can't be done in a day are convincing people that they are been ripped off when they get a realistic price for a landscaping job.

They expect a whole gardening job to be completed in one day and only want to pay for one day's work, because they see it on television and think that is reality. Gardening has now acquired the status of a soap opera only with more serious consequences. This trend has now left room for the cowboys to operate in a more convincing manner than before.

Decking which is the fad at the moment is now being built with everything from used pallets and scaffolding planks to white deal floorboards, and with disastrous consequences. After only one year the timber has started to twist and buckle with the wet and will sooner of later lead to serious injuries to adults and children.

One particular establishment that I know is stocking the proper timber for the job, "Canadian red cedar". But do you think he can sell it? As far as I am aware apart from the timber used for a demonstration deck that was erected in the sales area, not one single piece of that timber was sold.

Why this should be can be directly linked to misinformation in some gardening programs, which continually use old pallets to build a deck. People usually demand the best when doing renovations or home improvements to the house, Only the best will do when it comes to a fitted kitchen or new windows. Up to ten thousand can be spent on a conservatory, but when it comes to the garden proper then everything has to be done on the cheap.

You won't often here on the home improvement show how to put in a cheap kitchen, or build a cheap conservatory. So why do the gardening shows continually tell people how to garden on the cheap? It can't be done! You only get what you pay for in gardening just like everything else. A cheap job is only a short-term measure and will have to be done again in a short time. So it isn't cheap after all.

At the time of writing this article there is a garden not so far away that is having a new fence erected. The white deal untreated timber is lying on the lawn and already twisted with the rain as it is not even lying flat. Not to mention the damage that it might be doing to the lawn. The timber is being cut on site, and part of the picket style fence has already been erected without treatment of any kind.
