lighting conditions, and sometimes even if you turned the pot round. They need a draught free position with good light, and should be kept moist at all times. AIR PLANTS: Air plants or Tillandsias to give them their proper name are increasing in popularity now. Unfortunately because of their name, many people think that they live on air, and do not water them. Result... dead air plants. The name derives from the fact that they are epiphytes, and live in the branches of trees gaining their nourishment from the damp air. The roots, if they do have any at all, are for the purpose of anchoring them to the trees. Tillandsias should be kept in a well-lit position, but out of direct sun. Filtered light such as that provided by net curtains is ideal. Provide good air circulation and a temperature of between 50°F and 60°F degrees. Mist spray them every other day, preferably in the morning, and add a little feed about once a week. You can now buy liquid feed specially formulated for air plants. So this Christmas let's all try and reduce the death toll of both plants and humans, and remember if you drink don't drive. The person you may kill is usually someone else's Santa Claus. Happy Christmas, to one and all. Michael J Campbell.
