THE WINTER BLUES

The next town did have a car dealership which supplied me with a new cap and an hour stuck in traffic. When I did eventually reach Termonfeckin after a six hour journey I was just in time for the tea. It was just as well that left home an hour earlier that usual because of the storm.

Now back to the gardening; John Birks from the Botanical Institute University of Bergin gave a most interesting lecture on alpines and extremes, which explained how plants coped with extreme and changing conditions. With the change in the climate some plants creep higher up the mountains to cooler conditions as the climate gets warmer lower down. These in turn can then swamp the original occupants that would not be used to competition, and so the cycle goes on an on without anyone taking much notice. It gave me a lot to think about on my way home which you will be glad to know was uneventful.

Good gardening until next time. Tour my garden
