CARPETS OF GOLD

The raised beds in the back garden did so well compared to the scree in the front that I think the idea should be repeated. It is also a lot easier on the back when tending the plants and weeding can even be a pleasant task, apart of course for the hairy bitter cress which really annoys me. I know that vigilance is the answer and the only way to eradicate this little blighter by not letting it seed, but I would be eternally grateful if someone would come up with a permanent solution. In spite of my best efforts it has now invaded my pot plants in the alpine house and is even more difficult to control than in the garden where it is no longer a problem.

The alpine house containing the cyclamen is giving a good account of itself with lots of plants in bloom and Cyclamen coum just starting to flower. As I have said many times before the flowers on Cyclamen plants are a bonus as the leave patterns justify growing them even without flowers, and given that a lot of the flowers are perfumed they are the ideal plants to brighten up the winter months.

Good gardening until next time.
