If there are gardeners on your holiday gift list, gift selection is easy; there are so many thoughtful gifts that gardeners will appreciate and enjoy through seasons to come!
Gardening gear is a thoughtful gift because it makes the time spent doing what gardeners love to do easier. For instance, all gardeners are constantly in need of new gardening gloves, or special soap that gets grime off the hands easily. One of the best gifts I ever received was a gift basket that included a pair of gloves, gardening soap, and a special soft brush that scrubs the hands without gouging or tearing. New tools are always welcome - especially those that are designed to let gardeners garden longer with less wear and tear. Look for ergonomic tools and accessories that are designed to prevent wrist and arm strain, or tools that are designed for people with limited mobility. One online source for buying ergonomic tools is Gardenscape; this Canadian company has a entire page of "enabling" tools such as telescoping cultivators and trowels so gardeners can reach further more easily and ergonomic pruners, shears, and trowels. Rittenhouse is another Canadian company that sells ergonomic gardening tools that you can purchase online if you wish. Homemade gardening gifts are truly special. If you've collected seeds or harvested herbs over the year, you might package them nicely and put a collection of packets in an attractive basket or pot. Your gardening friend will love it! Many gardeners I know give out spices or preserves that they've made from their fall harvests in the holiday season, gifts that are truly special. Or give the gardener on your list something special to add to the ambience of his or her garden. There are many decorative garden pieces that your friends may love. What about a small fountain with a built-in pump or a sundial? Or a beautiful plaque with a special "gardening" message? An especially lovely gift in the dead of winter is a gift certificate to your gardening friend's favourite nursery. It's wonderful to be able to walk in the spring and groups of bulbs or bedding plants and pay with a gift certificate! Last, but definitely not least, is the gift of time, the gift that only you can give. This is an especially thoughtful gift for gardeners on your list that love to garden but are having difficulty doing as much of it as they'd like to do because of mobility or time problems. Choose a beautiful card, and write out a pledge to do something for them for a certain amount of time. For instance, you might offer to plant spring bulbs for someone, or do a certain number of hours of weeding. Go To Page: 1 2
