Whether you're putting in your first herb garden, looking for herbs to add to an existing bed or wanting to know more about what to do with the herbs you're going to harvest this summer, there's a cornucopia of information online.
I'm a huge advocate of growing herbs, and have masses of them throughout my garden beds. Why not? The deer don't like them (with the exception of basil), many of them are attractive plants, and you can eat them! What could be better? Here's a collection of herb-related sites that I've culled from the net to simplify your online search. Cooking http://www.ag.ohio-state.edu/~ohioline/h... Selecting, Storing and Using Fresh Herbs by Barbara H. Drake (Ohio State University Extension Fact Sheet). If you're just starting to explore cooking with fresh herbs, this Fact Sheet presents a useful chart of Culinary Herb Uses and information on selecting, storing and serving herbs. http://www.recipe-a-day.com/herbs.html Cooking with Herbs Packed with information on culinary herbs and how to use them in cooking, from the kitchen equipment you'll need to process freshly harvested herbs through recipes. http://www.cookingvegetarian.com/herbs.h... The chefs at the Cheese Facory Restaurant present "Herbs of the Month", including tips on growing the featured herb, recipes, and herbal "folklaw" (sic). The current feature is on chives; back features include rosemary, basil and thyme. All-in-one http://www.storeybooks.com/main/herb/he_... Whole Herb: Storeybooks.com Billed as a site for "all those who are fascinated with the fragrant world of herbs", this is a great all-in-one herb resource. Whether you want to know how to grow a particular herb, how to harvest the herbs you grow, or find herb-related recipes, it's here. http://www.io.com/~wilsone/ Horsetail Haven; An Austin Herb Garden; Ann-Marie Wilson My favorite all-in-one herb site because it has personality as well as masses of information. Clicking on the herb index will take you to specific information about particular herbs; the "Let's Cook" menu has links to recipes featuring herbs such as rosemary and cilantro, and herbal vinegars. Growing Herbs http://w3.aces.uiuc.edu/NRES/extension/f... Growing Herbs in the Home Garden by James C. Schmidt (Department of Horticulture, CES, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). Want to know how to fit herbs into your landscape or care for your herb garden in winter?
