Leaf CurlLeaf curl is a serious disease but is one of the easier ones to control. It affects peaches and nectarines mostly. Leaf curl is actually a fungus and is spread by spore dispersement. They survive all seasons. Normally infection occurs in young leaves and seems to leave older leaves alone. Hot moist conditions are a sure sign that you need to watch out for this on your trees. Leaves pucker and become deformed and discolored. Eventually the tree becomes bare as leaves fall. Controls include organic fungicide applied just before the swelling of the buds. Watch for temperatures and rainfall patterns because they can delay or speed up bud growth. And rain can wash your treatment away so a second treatment would be necessary. Cover your whole tree top to bottom. Thin your fruit, irrigate, and fertilize during summer.
