Gophers

Another good method is to get dogs, cats, or snakes....yes, I said snakes. Ok, so I wouldn't get a snake myself and put it in my yard. I'd never go out there, but if you aren't scared of those that aren't poisonous but love gopher meat, have at it!

Remember the hair scattered out and about to deter deer? I actually did put hair out in my garden this year. And ya know, I haven't seen the gopher holes. I wonder if they could smell my scent on the hair and kept away. Interesting theory...try it and see if it works in your yard.

As with the voles, try human urine in the hose-end sprayer. I'd do it in a cup then pour into the sprayer. Or better yet, have your husband (if he's not shy) do it in the sprayer. I used my own, but I sprayed my whole yard with it. And I didn't see anymore damage to my plants. I think it worked.

And be sure to let me know what works for you.

UPDATE: I now live in Northern Alabama and have no mammals raiding my yard. I did see one rabbit hop through the front yard, but he never touched the veggies. I guess because I have soil-borne mildew like disease on most everything planted in the actual yard, he won't eat them. Things in pots on the porch are huge and gorgeous. Too much rain has been my enemy this year.
