My Neglected Garden
problem; they are planted with dahlias and cannas, but most of the dahlias are still only a few inches tall and the cannas are about half their usual height. I suppose that I didn't water enough in June and July, but our unusually cool nights may also be responsible.
Our unusually cool nights are causing my sumach leaves to color a month earlier than usual and it looks like there may be autumn color from some other plants, so if the waterlilies keep blooming, the garden club may not notice that my garden isn't at its best.
Next year I will be less lazy. Next year my garden will be a showpiece. I will just have to focus on the flowerbeds because the rest of the garden can be tidied up after months of neglect. I just need to listen to my garden's lessons.
