Gardens Are For Peoplegarden design. Church was able to say more in a paragraph than most writers can in a chapter. His chapter on design principles is especially well written. The sections entitled Unity, Function, SimplicityScale are each only a couple of paragraphs long, but they explain these design concepts in a very succinct manner and offer plenty of practical suggestions. You may have noticed that I referred to Thomas Church as a garden designer rather than a landscape architect. this is because while he was a landscape architect, he focused on the design of private gardens. Landscape architects do rank higher than garden designers and I want to make it clear that I wasn't trying to lessen his status.
