Vita died of cancer at Sissinghurst on June 2, 1962. Harold died in 1968, but he never ceased grieving for his beloved wife. Vita and Harold felt that they had an unusually strong marriage and I have to agree with them. They show us that a marriage is more than about sexual compatibility; it is a meeting of two souls. I don't know if love is eternal, but Harold and Vita's marriage will survive for as long as their garden does.
