Koi Pondsinto the water. This plant is rooted in the leaves which collect at the bottom of the pond, the koi nibble on it; it is a healthy diet supplement and they keep it under control. When creating a koi pond, the needs of the fish should be more important than aesthetics. My ponds were not designed for the display of high quality koi; the main purpose of the koi is to keep the mosquitos under control. There is a marsh below the house and when I first moved here, there was quite a mosquito problem in the garden area. I was afraid that the ponds might make the problem worse, instead they fixed the problem. There are still plenty of mosquitos down by the marsh, but they are rarely a problem in the garden. If you are interested in raising high quality koi, two of the best webpages that I have found are Koi and Pond Net and Andrew and Jackie's Koi & Pond Page.
